Synopsis
No escape is about a famous vlogger who travels to Moscow, Russia to attend an escape room. Consumed in his own world and treated like royalty by a wealthy Russian man, he blindly enters the escape room with his friends for the world to see. But, sometimes the risk is not worth the fame.
Gore Factor
Most of the gore and blood scenes occur towards the end of the film. There is some descent special effects work which were incorporated into the film. However, for a majority of the film, there was little to no gore.
The Grave Review
Becoming a popular blogger and/or vlogger on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter or YouTube is something that everyone wants to be. Even more so, to get paid for traveling, eating, or sightseeing is very desirable for most. No Escape tries to combine the idea of modern day fads with some common horror elements which we have seen in the past.
The acting performances by the group of friends was descent. But, you never particularly become attached to anyone. Every character seems to be consumed in their own superficial world. Although, in some ways, one can argue that this is the modern mentality of people who was intended as part of the film.
The story quickly transformed from a horror film involving an escape room with demonic traps to torture scenes that you may see in films such as Hostile. But the most disappointing aspect of this film was how obvious the story was and how it would ultimately unfold. The ending of the film felt forced and certainly unrealistic.
Despite the downfall, No escape still manages to be an entertaining film and one Millennials and Generation Z viewers may appreciate.
For the foregoing reasons, Grave Reviews gives No Escape (2020) three out of five graves.
