Synopsis
Six people receive an invitation to an escape room shaped as a cube. The invitation states that if they complete the escape room, they will receive $10,000. When the group arrives at the attraction, they find out that they may be betting on more than a game. The escape room contains many deadly traps and difficult puzzles. Each room contains clues to solve a particular puzzle and escape to the next room. What initially seems like a random selection of people may have actually been strategically preselected to meet their demise. Who will survive and is the team strong enough to work together?
Gore Factor
Escape Room does not have many blood or gore scenes per se. The film is more suspenseful and alludes to painful deaths. For example, one person drowns in freezing water and another person falls several stories to her death. Although the premise of Escape Room is similar to the film, Saw, this film is a less intense version of a torture film.
The Grave Review
Escape Room (2019) is by no means an original concept but was a fun watch nevertheless. Some films that Escape Room reminded me of were films such as Cube, Saw and most recently, Haunt.
The aspect of Escape Room (2019) that was most impressive was the attention to detail with every room and the creative ways in which each puzzle was ultimately solved. The film reminded me of how bad I am at Escape rooms.
The plot will leave you wanting a more conclusive ending. In addition, members of the group figure out clues that did not seem believable and not something people would ordinarily know. Further, there were hardly any scenes that were particularly memorable. Escape Room is a good film to watch one time. However, it would be difficult to say that there is any rewatch value.
For the foregoing reasons, Grave Reviews gives Escape Room (2019) two and one-half graves out of five graves.
