As young boys in Altamira were killed, these series of crimes were known as the Altamira Child Emasculations. It is believed that a satanic cult, with the leadership of Anisio Ferreira de Sousa, was behind the brutal murders.
The Brutal Murders
From 1989 to 1992, boys aged 8-14 years old disappeared around the municipality of Altamira in the State of Para in Brazil. The deaths, injuries, and disappearances were called the Altamira Child Emasculations. The kids were kidnapped and the crimes committed unto them were for the purpose of satanic rituals and black magic allegedly by the Superior Universal Lineage sect.
The victims were all found naked, sexually abused with their genitals mutilated, with signs of torture, and eyes gouged out. According to reports, there were a total of 6 deaths, 3 injured, and 5 missing that were all connected to de Sousa and his cult. According to the victims’ families, there were a total of 19 victims in all.
Alleged Organ Trafficking
Investigations suggested that organ traffickers were behind the kidnapping of children. In fact, the cuts and mutilations show some medical expertise and they suspected possible involvement of doctors. During that time of the investigation, doctors Anisio Ferreira de Sousa and Cesio Brandao were detained for questioning.
Upon discovering that the way the organs were extracted was not fit for transport or even transplant, they were both released. With no evidence for organ trafficking, the case was left hanging.
The Other Cult Members
The satanic cult was known as the Superior Universal Lineage. It is said to be a mystical organization known for challenging the western idea of divinity and preaching about the dangers of living with children. They believe that God is evil and that children are the instruments of violence. They reiterated that those who were born after 1981 are the most dangerous.
There were a total of 7 members of the cult who were indicted based on evidences and witness statements. Anisio Ferreira de Sousa was in charge of the mutilations and rituals. He was seen worshipping the dark lord and to evade suspicion, he offered affordable medical consultations. Cesio Brandao was another doctor who did the castrations. Amailton Madeira Gomes was a homosexual member who gets the boys and rapes them. Carlos Alberto Santos Lima was a military policeman who confessed to being a member and protector of the cult. Aldenor Ferreira Cardoso was another military policeman who offered his security and protection to the cult. Jose Amadeus Gomes, Amailton’s father, was the one benefitting from the satanic ritual for his financial gains. And lastly, Valentina de Andrade was the founder of the group and the brains for the so-called rituals.
Trials and Sentencing
During the trials, the captured suspects were divided into two groups: the collaborators, and the main suspects. The collaborators included Amailton Madeira Gomes and Carlos Alberto Santos Lima. The main suspects were declared to be the two doctors and the cult founder.
In August 2003, Amailton Madeira Gomes was sentenced with 57 years in prison while Carlos Alberto Santos Lima was sentenced with 35 years in prison.
In September 2003, Cesio Brandao was sentenced with 56 years in prison for his involvement in the brutal murders. Anisio Ferreira de Sousa on the other hand, was sentenced with 77 years in prison for 3 murders and 2 attempted murders.
In December 2003, 72-year old Valentina de Andrade was acquitted after defending that she was not in Altamira during the murders, although it was believed that Andrade was the one who pushed the idea that boys born after 1981 were possessed by the devil.
