Horror Video Games for PS4 you must have
Many people are anticipating what the Playstation 5 will look like and what games will be released for it. But, lets take a step back and remember some of the horror games that came out within the last five years or so. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get quality games. Check out these picks for the Playstation 4 and let us know your thoughts.
Bloodborne
Released in March 24, 2015 by developers, FromSoftware, this hardcore, gothic-style action/adventure game is still going strong. Bloodborne exudes similar elements to that of Demon Souls and Dark Souls. Filled with challenging gameplay, beautiful scenery and disturbing scenes this game is a must for any horror enthusiast. This game is exclusive to the Playstation 4. As of date, there has been no announcement in respect to a sequel for this game. Five years later, there is still a strong community that plays this game.
Until Dawn
Released August 25, 2015, Until Dawn is best described as a Cabin in the woods style horror game in which the player must make timed decisions. These decisions will ultimately decide whether the group of friends survives the night or is killed. The cinematic scenes are well done and even features Rami Malek as one of the characters. The eerie music and environments accompanied with the grotesque death scenes makes for a fun and scary time.
The Evil Within
Released October 14, 2014, The Evil Within takes the form of a Resident Evil-style game utilizing some twisted situations similar to that of Eternal Darkness. If you recall from your Gamecube days, Eternal Darkness would periodically create distorted realities and intentionally mess with the players control over their character. The Evil Within, although not as unique, does utilize some of this. The Evil Within is about a detective named Sebastian Castellanos, who is investigating the horrific slaughter of residents, nurses and physicians at the Beacon Mental Hospital. Upon arrival, Sebastian is swallowed into a twisted nightmare facing gruesome creatures and decayed bosses. The game, which received mixed reviews upon release, actually wasn’t a half bad game.
We Happy Few
Released August 10, 2018, this psychedelic, drug-infested game is oddly horrifying considering all the bright and playful colors you encounter. Everyone is placed on a drug which makes you happy. But, when one person decides not to take their pills, your character uncovers the truth about the society they live in. Although the reviews on this game were mixed, it has a lot of fun features such as when you are off the drug. You see the society for what it is rather than what you feel it is. People are being beaten to death as the police and the towns people have smiles on their faces. There is nothing more eerie and disturbing than having zero sensation when killing someone. Overall, a fun and interesting game.
Outlast: Trinity
Outlast: Trinity is a combo game featuring the first Outlast game which was released on February 4, 2014 Outlast 2 which was released on April 25, 2017. The games are a horror survival game in which you must use your stealth tactics in order to avoid monsters and other crazy people within the game. Often, you will utilize a camera and a flashlight each with limited battery life. The environments were creepy and the gameplay was unique. Overall, a fun play with some classic horror style atmospheres.
