While they are seeking the treasure, the gamers decide to video their quest through a camera setup. This way they can air their adventures online after the event. The four friends form Team DNA. Unbeknownst to them, they are setup by a psychotic controller (Tony Todd).
Gore Factor
The film incorporates the appropriate a descent amount of blood and gore. This is presented like a reality movie where the participants are manipulated and tortured. There are a few scenes of blood dripping in faces and parts of the body.
The Grave Review
Are You Scared 2 (2009) incorporates a simple plot whereby a madman tortures and films his victims while forcing them to survive in an online video game. There have been similar films that follow this premise such as Stay Alive and How to Make a Monster. As such, we can now add Are You Scared 2 to the list of horror movies where video games are used as the medium for torture.
The film tried to keep the quality of the movie visually interesting. For example, various camera angles and different kind of lighting were used throughout the film. However, the lack of depth that the story had overshadowed any attempt to redeem this film. The plot, itself, creates many loopholes that result in more questions than answers. Other than the gore on its surface, there is nothing to keep the viewer interested.
In respect to the performances, the acting was mediocre overall. Tony Todd made the acting more tolerable as his performances are generally always respectable and fun to watch. However, even with his presence, he was not able to raise the quality of the film as a whole. Overall, this film belongs to a long line of horror flicks that infuse gallons of fake blood, disappointing special effects and barely dressed women.
For the foregoing reasons, Grave Reviews gives Are You Scared 2 (2009) one and a half graves out of five graves.
