1. Brandon Lee – The Crow (1994)
Dark, gothic and a plot of sheer revenge, The Crow (1994) has developed a cult following since its release. Actor, Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven who is brutally murdered by a series of gang members along with his finance. Lee’s character is brought back to life by (as the title implies) a crow and engulfed with the power of immortality in order to take revenge on the people who destroyed his world. The crow guides Lee’s character to these people and they all suffer miserable deaths. Brandon Lee’s performance as Eric Draven, a man who accepted the darkness to get revenge, has been engraved into the horror industry as one of the darkest and most iconic imagery in horror film history.
Brandon Bruce Lee was the son of famous martial art star, Bruce Lee. Growing up with such parents gave him the ability to also study martial arts and acting. Lee began his career in a 1986 ABC television series, Kung Fu: The Movie. He thereafter continued his career in other action movies such as Legacy of Rage (1986), Laser Mission (1989) and Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991). But Lee took on his most iconic role yet when he played the role of Eric Draven in The Crow (released 1994), which would ultimately be the last film he ever did.
While filming The Crow, Lee’s character gets shot by one of the gang members in his apartment in one of the scenes. However, what was supposed to be a blank bullet was actually a live round. The live bullet struck Lee’s Abdomen, where he was immediately rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in North Carolina. Surgery was conducted on Lee, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Lee died on March 31, 1993. He was 28 years old. Although most of the film, The Crow, were complete, many of the scenes were not and as a result, had to be rewritten using CGI and doubles in place of Lee’s character. There are many articles that mark this incident as “The Curse of The Crow.”
