Battleview Orchards is an apple and pumpkin picking venue located in Freehold, New Jersey. According to the website, it was established in 1908. I remember going with my family as a child, but it since has gained more popularity.
The way the apple picking works is that you receive a bucket and you can pick as many apples as you want. There are rows upon rows of apples and each section is marked what kind of apple it is. It is hard to resist snacking on the apples while your picking ones out. They also discourage you from climbing the trees to get the higher apples although that is also very enticing to do. Once you have decided 100 or so apples is enough, you go back to the entrance and the employees will weigh your bucket(s) to calculate a final price. The heavier your bucket is, the pricier it will be. For a list of their different apples and when they become ripe, visit there website as posted below.
Battleview also has pumpkin picking which is a lot of fun for the family. You probably won’t be able to collect 100 pumpkins but they have quite the variety. Again, price will also be based on the weight of the pumpkin(s).
Lastly and dearest to my heart, is their home-made fresh out of the oven apple-cider donuts. Let me begin first by saying I can have 10 of these things and I will have no regrets. Warm, crispy and delicious. The market also sells homemade apple-cider and some other products. When I first went to Battleview as a child, getting a donut was not a big deal however since they have become more known, the line to get your hands on one will take some time. Next year, I will plan on spending at least half a day here.
