Last year, I went to a hands on Haunted House with my sister-in-law called “The Uninvited: Awakening” located at 151 W 16th Street, New York, NY. The venue was in what appeared to be a large warehouse/storage facility. The event itself is designated for adults as it does involve some adult situations as I will discuss below.
I first walk into this large open corridor with several people and in front of me were two large doors which would eventually slide open. It starts with a witch cursing all of us and then the show really begins. You go deeper into the “spirit realm,” the atmosphere filled with strobe lights and heavy mist. Without being able to see in any given direction, there are zombies and ghouls walking around ready to scare you at any time. The warehouse is fairly large and there are many rooms to explore with creepy decor. Often times, you may get pulled into a room by someone which will trigger a one on one random event.
To explore the entire place took approximately 30 minutes. You can opt for an additional personalized experience in addition to the general admission if you so choose called the VIP skeleton key priced at $125 per person. When I went, they placed a glow in the dark necklace around my neck in order to distinguish me from the rest of the crowd.
Once the main event concluded, a zombie nurse took me into a room and closed the door. There were big mirrors all around and an empty bathtub in the center of the room. She told me to get undressed and go in the bathtub. She then filled the bathtub up with some cold water. I’m not exactly sure why I would agree to do this but it was probably because she was very attractive and I am sure she saw everything before so I figured why not. On a side note, every actor and actress were particularly good looking. Once I was in the tub, she started asking me questions. I think the point was to make me uncomfortable but it was very therapeutic to me.
Each VIP scenario will change so it is hard to say what other twisted concepts they have created. I have checked to see if tickets were available for 2017 as of today, September 5, although it does not appear tickets have become available as of yet. Overall, it was a fun night but will cost a pretty penny. I am nevertheless interested to see what the production crew will do this year.
