Sources indicate that the first haunted attraction was possibly in 1915 in Liphook, England, where a series of steam-powered carnival rides were made available to the public. Since then, many performances have incorporated some degree of spiritual or paranormal involvement giving curiosity to it’s viewers. During the 1950s and 1960s, many charitable organizations created haunted house attractions on a smaller scale. However, in 1969, Disneyland opened the Haunted Mansion, which was widely successful as the attraction was suitable for all ages. In 1973, Knott’s Berry Farm followed suit and opened its haunted attraction as well. Since then, Haunted Attractions, although mainly seasonal, have become its own industry and it is estimated that approximately $300 to $400 million is spend on Halloween Attractions every year.
