Rumor Rob Zombie to direct The Munsters Movie

Rumors are spreading that Heavy Metal Rocker and Director, Rob Zombie may have received the part to direct the movie version that is based on the cult TV Show, The Munsters. Initially aired on September 24, 1964, the show appeared on CBS and starred Fred Gywnne, Yvonne De Carlo, Al Lewis, Butch Patrick and Pat Priest. The plot followed the family of five as they live their everyday life in the only way they know how, the “Munster” way. The show was heartfelt and silly but only lasted 2 seasons for a total of 70 episodes ending May 12, 1966. Fast forward to 2021, we may have a new interpretation of this loving show.
According to various websites such as Movieweb and Murphy’s Multiverse, Rob Zombie, who is best known for his works from House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and the remake of Halloween, will be directing the movie version based on this family-friendly show, The Munsters. Many of Zombie’s works often depict scenes that are of a grotesque or sexual nature. The choice of director to create this movie version of this fun, light show may be a bit strange, but Zombie is known for being a huge fan of The Munsters so that may play in his favor.

In Zombie’s previous works, he has predominantly casted Sheri Moon Zombie, his wife, as his lead actress, along with other actors such as Richard Brake (31, 3 From Hell) and Jeff Daniel Phillips (31, The Lords of Salem) among others. It is rumored that these actors and actresses will take the lead roles that make up The Munster family where Jeff Daniel Phillips allegedly will be playing the role of Herman Munster and Sheri Moon Zombie will be playing the role of Lily Munster. Dan Roebuck and Jorge Garcia are also named which were mentioned as potential cast members. In addition, Cassandra Peterson, known for Elvira, is also said to play some supporting role in this film. From the outset, the Munsters as we know it may take on a different vibe, but it may be too early to tell.
Sources indicate that filming will begin May, 2021 but no release date has been reported yet.
