The new Mortal Kombat film is scheduled to be released on April 16, 2021 in theaters and HBO Max. The original Mortal Kombat was released in 1995 and had an excellent cast including Robin Shou as Lui Kang, Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung. The original Mortal Kombat was epic and certainly considered a cult classic for fans of the franchise. Many video game adaptations are hit or miss but as far as video game adaptations go, this was a good one.
The new Mortal Kombat film scheduled for this year, 2021, certainly has a lot to live up to. But what we know about the film, there are some interesting actors and actresses which may give the reboot a new perspective. For example, Raiden is going to be played by Tanadobu Asano. Many people know Asano from the psychadelic horror/thriller film, Ichi the Killer which received much praise. His new role as Raiden will most likely be quite different from Christopher Lambert’s interpretaion of the role. Hiroyuki Sanada will be playing Scorpion in the upcoming film. Sanada’s big hit came from his role in The Last Samurai, acting with main role, Tom Cruise.
There are several other actors and actresses who are lesser known. However, all the characters that we know all too well will be in the new film. But, perhaps this will be a truer version to the game franchise than the original. With only about two months to go, the Mortal Kombat trailer is available for viewing. We provided the video below. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.
