4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released by Nintendo to the game console, Nintendo 64 in 1998. In the United States, the game was released on November 23, 1998. The reception was strongly praised as the the game generated $150 million in U.S. revenue alone and had more than 500,000 preorders. Japan also reported that 820,000 copies were sold in 1998 alone. Since its release, the game has been re-released to various other gaming platforms and continues to be hugely successful. Not only was the game widely recognized, but the accompanying music was equally satisfying. To no surprise, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time received “Game of the Year” awards as well as “Best Music” awards.
Link is one of the most prominent characters in video game history and there have been a whole series of Zelda games. One of my personal favorites is Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game begins and you play the role of young Link. As you progress in the game and you go through the Temple of Time, you can eventually play as an adult Link.
As the game progresses, the environment becomes darker, especially when you play as an older Link. What was once a lively marketplace, now becomes a ghoul-infested dead zone. These ghoul/zombies are known as the Redead. What is scary about the Redead is that they give off a deadly scream which freezes your movement. Once they are close to Link, they crawl on his back and suck the life out of him. Needless to say, the motions and the actions of these enemies give off a disturbing and uncomfortable feeling that is sure to give any young child nightmares.
