2. Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue (1996) – Lavender Town
Pokemon became a phenomenon in the mid-1990’s, starting with the card game and eventually branching off into video games, TV shows, and movies. Originally released by Nintendo, the game was targeted at young children. The game revolves around a young boy who tries to become the Ultimate Pokemon Trainer and complete each Pokemon Gym to obtain badges. However, you come across one town that has made an impression on children since it’s inception, Lavender Town.
Upon your arrival in the Lavender Towers, every room has tombstones in it. There have been numerous postings on this topic of how it use to give children headaches and nightmares. There has even been fan-made games where you can play as the ghost often referred to as Pokemon: Black creepy version. Some say the music itself has caused suicide in children, although there have been no reports of the rumor.
The story behind Lavender Town is quite disturbing. Prior to your arrival, members of a terrorist organization (no this isn’t a joke) called Team Rocket invaded the Lavender Tower within the town. They raided the tower, stealing the skulls of a Pokemon known as Cubone, to sell for large amounts of money. However, there was one Cubone who was protected by its mother, Marowak. Although Marowak dies, Cubone survives. Since the tragic event, Marowak haunts the Tower in the form of a ghost and prevents visitors from accessing the top part of the tower. When players are finally able to defeat Marowak, its soul is laid to rest and it departs to the afterlife.
