The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale appeared on Sunday, April 15th, 2018. The following is a synopsis of this season’s finale:
***DISCLAIMER: SPOILER BELOW***
After a long battle with Negan and The Saviors, Rick, the Kingdom, and the Hilltop members team up in preparation of one last showdown. Meanwhile, Dwight gets turned on and taken prisoner by Negan and his crew for giving Rick information of Negan’s strategies. However, what Rick doesn’t realize is that the information he is given is a trap.
In the midst of this, Eugene is tasked with fulfilling an order by Negan to prepare ammunition and create bullets for battle. But by the same token, you can tell he feels guilty for being cowardly and siding with Negan. However, he has a trick under his sleeve. When Rick and his crew arrive at the final battle, the bullets Eugene had made explode and fire backward causing the Saviors to shoot themselves. This also causes Negan to shoot his hand.
When Rick and Negan confront each other, the struggle between them is almost juvenile. Rick eventually convinces Negan to give him 10 seconds on behalf of Carol in order to explain how they can coincide together. Surprisingly, Negan breaks down crying despite his merciless ways. This gives Rick the opportunity to attack Negan and Rick cuts Negan’s throat at the last second. Negan manages to survive which is consistent with the comic books.
***END OF DISCLAIMER***
First, as far as finales are concerned, I was a little disappointed with this episode. The episode seemed rushed and didn’t have the same effect as did the finale from other seasons such as season 6, which as you recall was entitled “Last day on Earth” and set the bar very high when Negan picked who he was going to kill leaving all of us in wonder who it was. Unfortunately, I think that the writers are having a tough time coming up with ideas to keep the show interesting.
As a fan, I enjoy the shows quite a bit but it, unfortunately, did not deliver the same effect that I was looking as it was in the previous Seasons. The question is where do they go from here? As in the comic books, another villain is coming, but has the shock value disappeared? We shall certainly see.
What did you think of the finale?
