Halloween is that one time of year where both artists and bakers come together with an epic collaboration of both dessert and art. The Food Network is the go to arena that debuts Halloween themed TV shows that show the skills bakers’ have with the newest season of Halloween Baking Champions. Episode 1, entitled “Filled with Surprises” focuses on eight bakers that are all competing for a chance at $25,000 and the title of Halloween Baking Champion.
The show features two challenges that require the bakers to incorporate in their desserts that focus on a Halloween theme. In challenge 1, the bakers are challenged to make a dozen cookies that are filled with a surprise. Each baker is given a particular theme to focus their desserts on which includes everything from spider webs to haunted houses. It is the bakers responsibility to make sure that their dessert utilizes the theme to win an advantage in the second challenge and these creations are critiqued by a panel of judges that decides who will win the advantage.
In challenge 2 the eight bakers are now given the challenge of creating a dessert of their choosing with the stipulation that it is filled with slime. Each baker is given a different flavor that they must fill their desserts with and normally half way through the challenge they are given an additional twist to include their dessert. The twist in this challenge was not only to fill it with slime but also to create a character for their creation all within an hour and at the end of the one baker will be eliminated.
These bakers provide great examples, ideas and tricks of the trade that would help any avid baker. To everything from how batter is properly made to properly using a pipe for frosting, this show is not only aesthetically pleasing to watch but also educating.
You can watch Halloween Baking Championship Mondays at 9 pm eastern on the Food Network.
